The Accidental Scribe

I love books - the smell, the weight of one in my hands and most of all the excitement of finding one I don't want to end.

Pile Of Bones by Bailey Cunningham

I downloaded this on a whine, a vague recommendation from somewhere or other.  At first, I was annoyed by the alternate world terminology.  I had to work a lot of it out contextually and it slowed the reading/leap into the story which is always my favorite part.  Then the characters caught me - sweet, conflicted Andrews, Shelby with her awkward edges, Carl, so invested in the physical his emotional reactions catch him by surprise.  And, of course, my absolute favorite - 4 year old Neil aka Mr. Leonard Cohen.

Once that happened I was committed, devouring pages instead of taking care of other tasks.  The last 30 pages or so had me holding my breath until the very end.

And therein lies the problem.  Even though this is the first book in a planned series, it ended too abruptly.  It's one thing to lure your readers into continuing with the next book but this one took it too far.  Especially when I have no idea when the 2nd book will be out.
